Name Tag, Inc. had the opportunity to donate some of its products to the YWCA Greater Newburyport. Here’s a follow-up on their event.

We had a very successful event attended by 80 high school students and over 100 adult community members.  We viewed the film “What Makes Me White?” by Aimee Sands.

Following the film, we had a robust and thought provoking discussion about racism.  Several high school students felt that racism is over and that by talking about it we are causing more problems. There is a challenge in discussing racism in an almost all white community.

Highly recommend the film.

The YWCA Greater Newburyport is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all.

For over 125 years, the YWCA Greater Newburyport has been transforming the lives of women and their families in the Greater Newburyport community. Our programs promote wellness, support families, develop leaders and advocate for equality and social justice.  Our services include affordable housing, after school child care, health and fitness programs, adult education and career enhancement, summer camps, girl’s leadership programs, and teen racial justice groups.  We have strong collaborative relationships with individuals and groups in the community that enhance our ability to create, promote and implement our services.
