Thank you to Name Tagm Inc. for helping make our Changing the Odds event with Marian Wright Edelman an inspiring and exciting experience for Stand for Children and all our supporters.  Marian Wright Edelman’s speech reminded us that we are all a family and that we must ensure that every member of our family has a chance to succeed. She inspired us to continue to be bold in our efforts to change the odds for all our students and change the lives of those who need it most.

“Allowing our children to fail is morally indefensible, ineffective and unfathomably costly. We can do better for our children, and we must.”  Marian Wright Edelman: Oct 20, 2011

Find more highlights of the event – videos, photos, quotes – at www.stand.org/wa/cto.

Thanks to the donations of our guests and our generous Advisory Board match, we were able to “double down” and raise $170,000 to support our work to ensure that all children, regardless of who they are or where they live, graduate from high school prepared for, and with access to, a college education.

As Marian Wright Edelman said, each one of us alone may be just a flea-bite but enough of us working together can become “a corps of fleas” and make a real difference.

If you weren’t able to contribute at the event or know others who would be interested in supporting Stand for Children, please visit or share the link www.stand.org/wa/cto to make a tax deductible contribution towards improving the odds for Washington’s 1 million K-12 public school students.

This event was a tremendous celebration of Stand for Children’s work so far and a spark to ignite the important work we must commit to doing in the future. It will take all of us working together as a team to achieve the significant changes our own children and the students across Washington State deserve.

Thank you to Name Tag, Inc. for helping us recognize outstanding educators, leaders and elected officials!

Stand for Children is hosting an event on October 20th in Seattle, “Changing the Odds, Changing Lives: A Fundraising Luncheon with Marian Wright Edelman.” Here’s some information about the organization:

Stand for Children: Our Vision

We believe ALL children deserve an equal opportunity to succeed in life. Education is the key that unlocks the door to success. Far too many children, through no fault of their own, aren’t getting the education they need to make it in life. We are passionately committed to righting this wrong.

Stand for Children: Our Mission

Our mission is to ensure that all children, regardless of their background, graduate from high school prepared for, and with access to, a college education. To make that happen, we:

  • Educate and empower parents, teachers, and community members to demand excellent public schools.
  • Advocate for effective local, state and national education policies and investments.
  • Ensure the policies and funding we advocate for reach classrooms and help students.
  • Elect courageous leaders who will stand up for our priorities.

Stand for Children: Our Work

We began our work in Washington in 2007 to train ordinary people to be effective citizen leaders capable of solving problems facing children, both locally and statewide, by convincing elected officials and voters to invest in and reform vital children’s programs. Our highly trained staff provide parents and others concerned about children’s issues with tools to achieve long-lasting improvements for children by joining together in a unified, grassroots voice.
